+ What is the 8 Minute Maths thing all about?

8 Minute Maths is a teaching method that utilizes 8 minutes as the optimal amount of time to learn and practice a new skill. Then I break or change to a different or deeper skill. Based on this, the lessons are broken into 8-minute segments for long-term learning and understanding.

+ Can’t I just watch YouTube videos and learn what I need?

YouTube is a huge resource. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of math videos there to help you understand virtually everything. The difference between YouTube and 8 Minute Maths is that I have a strategic, connected, foundational plan all designed for you to get you started with the basics and build up skill upon skill.

If you’re really trying to conquer math, you need a system that includes notes, resources, practice problems with solutions, and quizzes to gauge understanding.

+ How do I know you’re a good teacher? Do you have any experience?

I could just list my experience as a Mechanical Engineer turned Math teacher, 13 years of teaching middle school, high school, and college nationally and internationally, including the 3 books I’ve written on Math topics, along with the numerous resources I've created. But that doesn’t automatically equate to being a good teacher.

I have done all of those things - successfully. I’ve taught all levels from remedial to advanced math and made gains with over 85% of them. Check out the testimonials from some of my previous students.

My goal is to break down the skills into bite-sized, easy to absorb, pieces with language that’s on an understandable level. I truly want all of my students to succeed so I offer more than one way to solve problems.

+ Nothing else has worked for me. Why should I believe this will?

First of all, you have to believe in yourself. Don’t doubt your abilities to learn math. If you don’t think you can, then you’re right. If you do think you can, you’re also right. Mindset is KEY. This will work if you WORK IT! You do you part, I’ll do mine and together we’ll be successful at learning Math.

+ How is this different from just explaining the textbook again?

If all that was required was a textbook, there wouldn’t be teachers, classes, and tutors. Some people can read through a book and understand what’s being taught. Others need to have things explained to them. That’s what I’m here for.

I have been teaching students of all levels or over 13 years. I have seen all types of learners and issues. Those who are good at math and those who aren’t. From this experience, I have learned that pitfalls in certain skills and I know how to navigate my students through them.

Fractions is fractions is fractions. But how you add or subtract them can be taught in many ways. You need someone who can teach you the best, easiest way.
